Overview
Clare is respected for her thorough preparation and ability to engage with witnesses.
She is a persuasive jury advocate in the most sensitive of cases. Clare’s extensive
criminal practice involves all areas of general crime with particular emphasis on serious
sexual offences and child cruelty. Her cases often involve multiple defendants and
allegations that are historic, and involve witnesses with various vulnerabilities including
age and/or mental incapacity.
 
Clare's notable cases include:
R v Williams and R v Baker (Junior defence counsel in covert operation resulting in
multi-handed conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs)
 
R v Clarke (Junior defence counsel in historic familial sexual abuse spanning 25 year
period)
 
R v David (Junior Prosecution mentally ill mother accused of murdering her young
daughter)
 
R v Rudall (Junior defence counsel solicitor accused of fraud)
 
R v Rehman (Prosecuting counsel - taxi driver who deliberately drove at a group of
pedestrians, the case attracted national publicity)
 
R v Brook (fireman accused of 17 counts marital rape of two ex wives)
 
R v Harris (intruder rape of an 83 year lady)
 
R v Collins, O'Brien and Gauci (Prosecuting counsel - £320,000 conspiracy to defraud,

Clare has extensive experience in representing serving police officers in both criminal
allegations and misconduct hearings and has successfully appeared in the Police Appeal
Tribunal. Clare is also regularly instructed by the Police Federation in inquests following
deaths in custody.
 
Clare prosecutes on behalf of a number of local authorities in the Crown Court. Her
areas of expertise include trade mark contravention, consumer protection and food
safety. In addition she lectures local authorities on food safety prosecutions.
 
Clare is accredited by the Bar Council to undertake Direct Access work.
