Vanessa has recently joined Apex Chambers after nearly two decades developing one of the leading niche criminal solicitor’s practices in the South West. In her time as founding partner at her firm Vanessa established herself as a solicitor-advocate working on high profile cases which gained national attention such as murder, offences involving allegations of serious violence or sexual wrongdoing and complex drug and fraud matters. Widely regarded as a natural advocate, she brings to chambers the experience of defending criminal cases at all levels and receives instructions and private and legally aided cases.

Not only a defence practitioner, Vanessa also has experience of prosecution having conducted cases on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry (as they then were), Post Office, South West Water and other public bodies over the last 20 years. Her 25 year standing as a police station duty solicitor gives her detailed knowledge and insight into police practice and the challenges faced both by police and detainees during the investigatory process. She has represented police officers accused of misconduct within police disciplinary proceedings and dealt with similar regulatory matters for organisations such as the National Union of Teachers, and the Royal College of Nursing.

Her vast experience and approachable nature make her popular with clients and solicitors alike.
