John was called to the Bar in 1997. He is an Assistant Deputy Coroner for Bridgend and the Glamorgan Valleys, an Assistant Deputy Coroner for Warwickshire, a CPS Grade 4 prosecutor, and a member of the Criminal Bar Association. He practises in serious crime and related civil law matters and has a particular expertise in the law relating to firearms.
His work in respect of sexual offences has included kidnapping and rape, gang rape of a teenage girl, male rape, indecent assaults on adults and children, and bestiality. John appeared for the offender in Attorney General's Reference (No.80 of 2006) [2006] EWCA Crim 2305, a case concerning whether a rape victim’s physical and mental conditions meant that she was an especially vulnerable person and whether full credit for the guilty plea should have been given.
John’s work in respect of cases involving serious violence includes murder, attempted murder, serious section 18 OAPA cases, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and large scale violent disorder.
He has also appeared in a large number of cases concerning dishonesty, including blackmail, fraud, high value thefts, and proceeds of crime and money laundering.
John has experience of civil law matters including police misconduct, and Inquests - both the police and private individuals have been represented and cases have included deaths following police pursuit.
