Tom Crowther

Tom is one of the founding members of Apex.
He took degrees in Chemistry and Law before being called to the Bar in 1993.

Tom was appointed an Immigration Judge in 2006 and a Recorder in 2009.

He has been a Grade 4 CPS prosecutor and a member of the Attorney General´s Panel of Prosecuting Advocates since 2003. He has prosecuted for the RCPO and SOCA. He was appointed to the Welsh Assembly Government´s Counsel Panel in 2009.

He has defended cases of the utmost gravity as a junior alone, including manslaughter and attempted murder. He specialises in police defence both in the Criminal courts and before misconduct tribunals.

Chambers and Partners has rated him a first-rank leading junior since 2003, specifically commending his expertise in police cases and in computer crime; the 2008 volume notes his "evident dedication to the cause of the client".

He is noted by the Legal 500 for 2009 for his police work.

Tom´s reported cases include one of the first guideline decisions on the Sexual Offences Act 2003, R. v. Ben Corran and Others [2005] Cr.App.R.(S.) 73.

Tom is a member of the Courts Service´s Victim Advocacy Panel. He was an elected member of the Bar Council from 2005-2008, serving on its Remuneration and Professional Practice Committees; he has been elected again for 2010-2012.
