Ben Jones
​Ben was called to the Bar in 2021 and joined Chambers in 2024, following the successful completion of his pupillage under the supervision of John Ryan and Clare Wilks respectively.
​
Ben accepts instructions in all Chambers’ practice areas. He regularly defends and prosecutes on behalf of the Local Authorities, Crown Prosecution Service, South Wales Police and Gwent Police in a wide range of cases within the Crown Court, Youth Court and Magistrates Court.
Ben has dealt with a wide range of offences, including drugs, violence, and sexual offences. He is currently a CPS grade 1 prosecutor.

Ben has developed a strong practice in regulatory law. His work with the Local Authorities ranges from initial disclosure, case management, through to prosecutions and providing written advice. His practice area includes welfare matters, animal welfare, environmental offences, licencing, and educational matters. Ben also defends on behalf of individuals in all regulatory matters, including prosecutions brought by Companies House and taxi licence appeals.

Ben has also developed a strong practice in professional discipline, regularly appearing as a case presenter on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council in multi-week hearings before the Fitness to Practice committee, as well as interim order hearings and substantive order review hearings.
​
Prior to pupillage, Ben studied Law at Oxford Brookes University before undertaking the BPTC LLM at the University of Law, London Bloomsbury. Following Bar School, Ben worked for Hugh James solicitors as a paralegal for 18 months before working as a Legal Adviser in the Magistrates’ Court for two and a half years throughout South Wales.
Notable Cases:
R v J (2024), Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court: Instructed to represent an individual charged with possession of a bladed article. Successful defence with not guilty verdicts returned following trial. Submissions surrounding the considerations of the case of Henderson [2016].

R v M (2024), Cardiff Magistrates’ Court: Privately instructed to represent an individual charged with s.4A harassment against his ex-partner. Successful defence with not guilty verdicts returned following trial.

R v C (2024), Swansea Magistrates’ Court: Successful prosecution in a trial involving an individual charged with assault by beating on two children. Trial involved the children giving evidence at court.
Sentencing
R v J (2025), Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court: Privately instructed to represent an individual charged with criminal damage and breaching a suspended sentence order. Secured a community order and a financial penalty to mark the breach.
Appeals
Appeal of A (2025), Cardiff Crown Court: Successfully represented an individual charged with an offence of exposure. Appeal against conviction allowed.

Appeal of N (2024), Cardiff Crown Court: Successfully resisted an appeal of a man convicted of assault by beating on his then partner. Appeal dismissed.
​
Appeal of E (2024), Cardiff Crown Court: Successfully resisted an appeal of a man convicted of driving offences. Appellant put forward ‘freeman of the land’ type submissions. Appeal dismissed.
Regulatory
Natural Resources Wales v D (Ongoing), Cardiff Crown Court: Currently being led by Christopher Rees KC in the prosecution of a defendant accused of depositing waste unlawfully and permitting the operation of an unlicensed waste operation.

Neath Port Talbot CBC v M (2024), Swansea Magistrates’ Court: Advised the council on the imposition of a Criminal Behaviour Order before applying for it successfully before the Magistrates.
​
Companies House v I (2024), Cardiff Magistrates’ Court: Privately instructed to represent an individual for failing to return their accounts on two occasions. Successfully negotiated with the prosecution prior to trial resulting in the prosecution offering no evidence.
Professional Discipline
Nursing & Midwifery Council v F (2025): Successfully represented the NMC in a 5-day fitness to practice hearing concerning a registrant who had been subject to a referral for misconduct following an allegation of attempting to cover up a resident’s serious injuries. A suspension order was imposed.

Nursing & Midwifery Council v U (2024): Successfully represented the NMC in a 15-day fitness to practice hearing concerning a registrant who had been subject to multiple referrals across the United Kingdom for misconduct. A striking-off order was imposed.
​
Nursing & Midwifery Council v F (2024): Successfully represented the NMC in an 8-day fitness to practice hearing concerning a registrant who had been subject to a referral for sexual misconduct in the workplace. A suspension order was imposed.
