CRIME
Lowri prosecutes and defends in all aspects of criminal and regulatory law.
​
Lowri has experience of defending clients suffering from complex mental health issues and learning difficulties.
​
She is a Grade 4 prosecutor and has been instructed as junior counsel by the Complex Case Unit in three cases of conspiracy and by the Serious Sex Unit in a case of historic child sex abuse.
​
EMPLOYMENT
Lowri regularly appears on behalf of Claimants and Respondents at the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal in contested hearings relating to such issues as Unfair Dismissal, Constructive Dismissal, Redundancy, Discrimination, Breach of Contract, Unlawful Deductions of Wages, cases relating to the Statutory Minimum Wage, Whistleblowing and has successfully argued Costs applications.

Operation Dogtail – Cardiff Crown Court
Leading Counsel, with Miss Abigail Jackson as junior, prosecuting a 12 handed conspiracy to convey prohibited articles into prison
R v Normunds Freiburg, Ruta Stankeviciene and Jacobus Stankevicius – Newport Crown Court
Leading Counsel, with Miss Martha Smith-Higgins as junior, instructed by the Gangmasters & Labour Abuse Authority to prosecute the defendants for modern slavery, forced labour and exploitation.
Operation Carina (R v Alexander Davies and Others) – Swansea Crown Court
Leading Counsel, with Miss Martha Smith-Higgins, defending Mr Davies in an Enchrochat case, who was acquitted conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
R v Michael Martin, Linda Martin, Stefan Martin and Daniel Lee Martin – Newport Crown Court
A multi-million pound concealing and converting criminal property case, involving allegations of money laundering thoroughly fixed odds betting machines.

Initially instructed as Junior Counsel (to Miss Marian Lewis) for Daniel Lee Martin, argued a successful half time of submission of no case resulting in the defendant’s acquittal.
​
Latterly instructed as Junior Counsel (to Mr Zacharias Miah) for Michael Martin. Following extensive legal argument from the defence, analogous to that of the “Post Office Cases”, the Crown were eventually ordered to disclose the raw data of the fixed odds betting terminals, specifically relating to the software operating system from SG Gaming. The Crown were forced to offer no evidence as they were unable to comply with this order.

Rape and Child Abuse
R v Ziani and Ziani – Cardiff Crown Court
Junior Counsel to Miss Marian Lewis, where the complainant alleged that she had been abused as a child by her maternal aunt and uncle. The Defendants were charged on an indictment containing 27 counts of sexual abuse. The complainant’s allegation was that the abuse was violent, and that she was penetrated by objects and weapons.
Serious Violence
R v Abbigail Thomas, Cardiff Crown Court – Defending
The Defendant was charged with Violent Disorder, with six co-defendants. Following a late guilty plea, successful mitigation on her behalf, ensured that whilst the co-defendants received custodial sentences, the defendant received a conditional discharge.

R v Mihaj Minjan Miah, Cardiff Crown Court – Defending
The Defendant was charged together with two others. He and one of his co-defendants were jointly charged with and offence contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Persons Act, where the Defendant struck the complainant several times to the head with a hammer, and stabbed him to the arm.
Trials involving child victims
R v Robert Anthony Bispham, Newport Crown Court – Defending
The Defendant was charged with one count of indecent assault. He was a teacher at a local secondary school, and the complainant was a pupil of his. The complainant was 13 years old, as were two friends of hers who also gave evidence for the Crown, which required them to give evidence via the video link, and questioning in accordance with the guidance set out in the Advocates Gateway. The Defendant was acquitted.

Regulatory, Inquiries & Inquests
BSI v Sandra Morgan and William Morgan, Swansea Crown Court
Prosecuting on behalf of the Department of Innovation and Skills the Defendants were convicted of insolvency fraud.

WRH v Andrew Morgan, Swansea Crown Court
Prosecution of a Defendant was charged with defrauding the National Health Service whilst working for them as an accountant.
