OVERVIEW

Ross was called to the Bar in 2021, completing pupillage at Apex Chambers in 2022 under the supervision of Lucy Crowther.

Ross accepts instructions in all Chambers’ practice areas. He regularly defends and prosecutes on behalf of the Local Authorities and the Crown Prosecution Service, in a wide range of cases within the Crown Court, Youth Court, and Magistrates Court.

 

Additionally, Ross has developed a strong practice in regulatory law. His work with the Local Authorities ranges from initial disclosure, case management through to prosecutions. His practice area includes environmental offences, animal welfare maters and trading standards. 

 

He co-founded the South Wales Bar Young Bar Committee and sits on the Bar Councils Young Barristers Committee.

Notable Cases

 

Sexual offences

 

R v H – Ross successfully defended in a trial involving numerous counts of sexual assault, false imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and witness intimidation. 

 

R v H – Ross represented a youth charged with rape.


R v N – Defence of a teacher charged with sexual communication with a current pupil. The defendant was sentenced to a community order.

 

R v E – Ross represented a defendant who had flown from the United States to 'marry' a 14 year old girl.

 

SWP v R – Ross was instructed to represent an appellant seeking to oppose a sexual risk order application, which was brought by South Wales Police following multiple failed attempts to prosecute him. 

 

Drugs, Violent and Dishonesty Offences

 

R v H – Ross successfully defended in a firearms offence.

 

R v G – Prosecution offered no evidence following a successful application made by Ross to exclude evidence the prosecution sought to rely upon. 

 

R v G – Ross successfully defended in a multi handed violent assault.

 

Regulatory

 

RCT v B – Ross was instructed by the Local Authority to prosecute a ‘dodgy builder’ that had caused over £60,000 of damage to his clients property. 

 

BCC v K – Ross successfully prosecuted a rogue landlord who had illegally evicted her tenant, in both the Magistrates’ Court and on appeal in the Crown Court.

 

CCC v H – Ross successfully appealed a taxi license revocation after the appellant had his license revoked following a fatal car accident. 

 

RCT v G – Ross was led by Hashim Salmann in a multimillion pound money laundering and POCA brief.
